Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will someone show me how to use the equipment?
A. Demonstrating the equipment is standard with all new members. We will also help you design a program for your own needs if you want a little more assistance.
Q. Is there a place I can change?
A. Yes. There are men and women’s restrooms as well as a small dressing room. Unfortunately, we do not have shower facilities.
Q. I am a visitor to the area - do you have a daily or weekly rate?
A. Yes. The daily rate is $5 and the weekly rate is $15
Q. What type of equipment do you have?
A. We have treadmills, bikes, elliptical trainers, selectorized weight machines, free weights, and variable resistance hydraulic machines. You may view all our equipment by clicking on the equipment links on either the 30 Minute Workout or the Co-ed Fitness pages.
Q. What advantages do variable resistance machines have over single resistance?
A. At many of the ladies fitness centers only one level of resistance is available on their hydraulic machines. Unfortunately, as you get stronger these types of machines cannot keep pace. This creates what is commonly called a "plateau effect" where little or no strength gains or weight loss is achieved.
Q. May I come more than 3 days a week?
A. YES! You may come every day if you want. According to the new exercise guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine healthy adults should participate in 30 or more minutes of moderate daily physical activity.
You may do a cardio workout or use the hydraulic machines every day. When using weights it is fairly common to lift for the upper body one day and the lower body the next.
Q. What is the proper attire?
A. You will see mostly over-sized t-shirts or sweatshirts, and comfortable shorts or sweatpants. As for shoes, wear athletic shoes that are comfortable, not necessarily expensive. Please make sure your shoes are clean and encase the whole foot - no sandals.
Q. What is the minimum age my son or daughter must be?
A. Boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 14 may work on the cardio and hydraulic equipment if accompanied by a parent. Teens should be 15 to work unattended or in the free weight room.
Q. Do I need a doctor's permission to exercise at Mountain Fitness?
A. Most people can and should exercise. However, there are individuals who should get their doctor's permission prior to beginning an exercise program. Anyone with an unstable medical condition will want to seek an exercise prescription from their doctor. Injury may also require an individual to wait for the healing to be complete prior to beginning exercise.
Q. Some workout centers provide nutritional counseling and supplements - do you?
A. My ACE code of ethics prohibits me from giving advice on any subject in which I have not been specifically trained.
Please keep in mind proper training takes more than a few days or mere hours that some centers devote to this subject.
There are several licensed health care practitioners in our area who would be a more appropriate source for nutritional guidance.
